Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the path of youth poor households with the bottom quintile of income, which becomes an issue and is recently referred to as the 770,000 won generation, in the context of National Basic Livelihood Security(NBLS). For this, using the Korea Labor and Income Panel Study, this study analyzed the pathways of variables such as the family background of public assistance, age of home leaving, and educational attainment affecting the transition to youth poor households by multiple mediator path model. Looking at the major results, first, the proportion of children of public assistance recipients transferred to youth poor households was found to be 2.92 times higher than that of children of non-public assistance recipients. Second, the direct effect of the family background of public assistance recipients on youth poor households was not found to be significant. Third, the indirect effect by a single mediator of educational attainment, and the indirect effect by multi-mediator variables of early home leaving and educational attainment significantly affected the transition to youth poor households. Through this, this study suggests that the educational opportunity should be expanded not only for children who are in public assistance recipients but the opportunity to accumulate human capital should also be constantly provided for youth who are separated from households under NBLS.
